Physical Description

The Georgia Tech Boggs Building houses the School of Chemistry. Albion Scaccia was selected to perform a complete renovation of the 28,000 square foot third floor. This consisted of full demolition, abatement, masonry, doors & frames, lab casework & hoods, finishes, plumbing, HVAC, mixed gas & vacuum air, data, and electrical.

Services Performed

The Boggs Chemistry Building was built in 1970 and named after Dr. Gilbert Hillhouse Boggs who was the Dean of the Chemistry Department from 1935 to 1941. This five story building was in need of major refurbishing and GT chose to begin this effort by starting on the third floor.

The first phase of this project consisted of the abatement and removal of all hazardous materials. Albion Scaccia then began the process of demolishing most of the CMU block walls, and all of the electrical, HVAC, plumbing, as well as finishes.

The second phase consisted of the build back of new CMU block walls, doors & frames, electrical wiring & lights, voice & data wiring, laboratory plumbing, gas piping, compressed & vacuum air piping, laboratory casework & hoods, HVAC, acoustical ceilings, and all finishes.

We were responsible for design review, value engineering, budget control, subcontractor bidding and solicitation, creating the project master schedule, and developing the project safety control plan.

During the construction phase, we were responsible for all subcontract management, document control, cost management, schedule management, safety management, quality assurance, change order and RFI management, progress reporting and project closeout.

Performance

This project was completed on-budget and on-time and the client was very pleased with the attention to detail and quality.
